In late May, Philippe Padieu was convicted in a Texas court of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for knowingly exposing multiple women to HIV. He was sentenced to 45 years in prison. For years, however, women knew him as a handsome, charming companion, a confidant whom they never suspected of having other girlfriends -- or of carrying such a dark secret.
These brave and extraordinary women who did the legwork for the police and brought their heartbreaking personal stories to public attention should be honored. Their bravery brought some sort of justice, albeit inadequate, for what these women have been put through and suffered. It is so sad that there continues to be so many unethical people in the world as Phillipe Padieu who have such disregard for human life. The truly have stopped a serial killer. These women are heros!
